Allegany County Public School System is located in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland. The area is renowned for its community spirit, low crime rate, and house prices are some of the lowest in the country.The mission of the Allegany County Public School System, as an educational partnership dedicated to excellence, is to assure that all students achieve their fullest personal and academic potential by creating a supportive environment of high expectations. The elected school board consists of five elected board members and a student board member.The system has a PreK-12 student population of about 11,000 students. The school system operates 23 school buildings, which include 13 elementary schools, 1 elementary-middle school, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, a career center, and an alternative school.
